Superman

One sunny afternoon, Tom’s mum had to go to the supermarket.  Reluctantly, she left him at home.  Tom went to the living room to watch his favourite cartoon, Superman.  His eyes were glued to the television when Superman was soaring across the sky to rescue a damsel in distress.  He was fascinated by the incredible stunts that Superman performed with such ease.  “Wow!” he beamed.  The secret must be in his cloak.

His mind was whirling with excitement.  He remembered his mum has a beautiful red shiny table cloth tucked away in the kitchen cupboard.  Quickly, he dashed to the kitchen to locate the tablecloth.  Tom then opened his comic to observe how Superman tied his cloak.  He then wrapped the tablecloth around his neck.  Oooh! I feel like I can fly like Superman now!”  Thankfully, mum was not at home.

Tom dragged the high stool and placed it right next to the washing machine.  With a mischievous smile, he climbed up and stood on the tall stool.  Tottering precariously on top of the stool, he stretched his hands out, as if he was going to fly.  He flapped his arms several times.  He took a big leap off the stool, convinced that he would be able to soar like Superman.  Instead he fell down flat on his face.  Ooouch! Ouch!”  He howled in pain.  What a fright he had!  He rubbed his nose, dazed be the fall.  Good thing his nose was not broken, but it was bleeding profusely.  Just then, his mother walked in.  Seeing that Tom was hurt, she quickly cleaned him up and dressed his wounds.  She was very disappointed with Tom.  For his punishment, Tom was grounded with no television for one whole week.  Misery was written all over his face.  Tears rolled down his cheeks and he promised his mother that he will never ever perform that dangerous stunt again.
