    Our Background

parables@work conducted its first English Classes in January 2003.  The founders believe that education need not be boring or staid.  With that in mind, we design our worksheets to enrich the child’s worldview, even as he learns the humdrum rules of grammar.

Apart from that, we believe that children need to learn, not merely how to do well in examinations, but how to be wise in the way they deal with life and its challenges.  Thus, the worksheets provide opportunity for discussion on appropriate responses in sticky, every day situations.  This is in keeping with the objectives of making parables@work a vehicle to help children plot a way to wisdom.

We must say that we have achieved a certain amount of success.  Not only have our children, on the whole, performed very well in their examinations, many love coming for class.  Parents inform us that the children usually chatter about what they learnt at parables the minute they are picked up.  This is indeed something that warms our hearts.  Parents have also been very appreciative of the fact that we go beyond the curriculum in our teaching.

Today, parables@work also conducts Math & Science classes, ad-hoc oral skills classes, arts immersion classes, Science Explorer classes amongst others.  parables@work also publishes its works, and the first book, “Winning Compositions’ has been very well received, and is one of the very few local guide books to make its way to the National Library.

    About the Teachers

Our teachers are all graduates who are highly proficient in the subjects they teach.

For instance, Cherie, Liz and Sophia are all distinction holders of English Language at ‘O” levels before pursuing the subject further at the university

Ghazali, our English teacher in charge of the secondary school syllabus, is a first class honours degree holder in English Literature.

Further, our teachers have also had experience teaching in the local context.  Peter Back, our Math and Science head, has been teaching, successfully in various centres, including Futurekids and The LearningLab.

More importantly, these teachers are able to establish a relationship with the children under their care.  This helps them form the right attitude towards learning the subjects.
